Artful Living: The Spirit of the Craftsman Style

Artful Living exhibition at Grovewood Gallery in Asheville, NC.
Painting by Shawn Krueger, console table by Timothy Livingston, and ceramic whiskey set by Leslie Green Guilbault.

Grovewood Gallery proudly presents Artful Living: The Spirit of the Craftsman Style, a group exhibition celebrating the enduring influence of the American Arts and Crafts movement. On view from October 18 through December 31, 2025, this curated showcase brings together the work of four contemporary makers who honor traditional craftsmanship while offering fresh perspectives on timeless forms.

Featured artists include ceramicist Leslie Green Guilbault, a Roycroft Artisan whose pottery blends nature, myth, and metallic luster; blacksmith Paul Garrett, known for his handcrafted metalwork and luminous mica lamps inspired by early 20th-century design; furniture maker Timothy Livingston, whose heirloom-quality pieces reflect a deep reverence for honest materials and joinery; and painter Shawn Krueger, a Roycroft Master Artisan whose landscapes echo the quiet mood and tonal beauty of historic plein air work.

Through clay, canvas, wood, and metal, Artful Living explores the soul of the Craftsman ethos—simplicity, utility, and harmony with the natural world. Join us for an opening reception on Saturday, October 18, from 2 to 5pm, and meet some of the artists behind this inspired collection of work.

Featured Artists

Leslie Green Guilbault is a Roycroft Artisan whose ceramic work bridges the realms of craft, nature, and imagination. Inspired by a rekindled passion for making—sparked during a hike with her son—she built her practice from the ground up, eventually developing a diverse body of work that reflects both technical mastery and creative vision. From mythic motifs to lush botanical forms, Guilbault’s ceramics draw on the legacy of the Arts and Crafts movement, with her acclaimed Roycroft Metallic Collection showcasing her signature blend of medieval influence and modern elegance.

Paul Garrett is a master blacksmith based in Brasstown, North Carolina, whose work blends traditional metalworking techniques with the enduring aesthetics of the Arts and Crafts movement. Working in iron, bronze, copper, and aluminum, Garrett creates both original and reproduction pieces that range from architectural commissions to finely crafted home accents. With a career that spans international teaching and competition—including appearances at the World Forging Championship in Italy and Helfštýn Castle in the Czech Republic—his work reflects a deep reverence for craftsmanship, heritage, and timeless design.

Shawn Krueger is a contemporary landscape painter whose work blends the quiet beauty of American Tonalism with the principles of the Arts & Crafts movement. A graduate of Calvin College with a BFA in painting, Krueger is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he creates serene, nature-inspired works rooted in the landscapes of Western North Carolina, the shores of Lake Huron, and wooded scenes across the country. He is a Master Artisan with the Roycrofters At-Large Artisan Guild and a signature member of the American Tonalist Society. Krueger’s award-winning paintings are held in public and private collections nationwide, celebrated for their timeless quality and deep reverence for the natural world.

Timothy Livingston is a furniture maker and designer whose work is inspired by the enduring legacy of the American Arts and Crafts movement. Since 2011, he has developed a full-time studio practice centered on traditional joinery, thoughtful design, and the use of honest materials like quarter-sawn white oak and reclaimed old-growth lumber. Influenced by historic figures such as Gustav Stickley and Charles Limbert, Livingston creates handcrafted furniture that is functional, timeless, and built to last—offering a lasting connection to American design heritage.
