Rick EckerdHand-Blown Art Glass Rick Eckerd is an accomplished glass artist whose work is characterized by bold, fluid color and geometric forms. A native of Florida, his interest in the ocean and underwater life is reflected in the designs of many of his teapots and vessels. He has been a resident artist at Grovewood Village since 1992. Eckerd received his art degree from Tulane University before beginning years of study at the Penland School of Crafts, Pilchuck Glass School, and the Rochester Institute of Technology. His best known pieces are colorful, complex, nonfunctional vessel-like objects in which he takes a painterly approach to color, form and line quality. Rick Eckerd has been involved with numerous Asheville projects, including Highland Brewing, Wedge Brewing, and the Asheville Art Museum. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the North Carolina Glass Center in Asheville. Studio Visits This studio will not be open for public tours or studio visits in 2020.
