Anja Bartels creates porcelain pottery inspired by her childhood memories of growing up in a port city on the North Sea. This mug was hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel and then decorated with dozens of tiny porcelain spikes to resemble a sea urchin shell. The cup’s interior is painted with a gorgeous aqua blue celadon glaze.
About Anja BartelsOriginally from Hamburg, Germany, Anja discovered pottery making while living in an intentional community in Virginia. The passion ignited, she returned home to study in the German Ceramics Guild. After completing a three-year apprenticeship with a master potter, Anja received her journeyman ceramics degree from the German Chamber of Crafts and Trades. She is now an artist-in-residence at Odyssey ClayWorks in Asheville.
Please Note: Each sea urchin mug is individually hand-thrown and decorated. Slight variations should be expected and embraced.
