Disc Vase

Description

Born in California, Jeff Margolin is a self-taught ceramic artist with over 40 years of experience shaping clay into intricate, sculptural works. His artistry is a dynamic fusion of form and decoration, drawing inspiration from traditional ethnic motifs and visionary artists like Salvador Dalí, M.C. Escher, and H.R. Giger. Nature also plays a vital role in his creative process—leaves, rock formations, and the fluid patterns of water erosion inform the organic flow of his designs.

Jeff’s signature style is unmistakable, a harmony of precision and intuition. Each piece begins with clay, thrown or sculpted into a form that leaves space for his meticulous carvings. Using a needle to sketch the design, he carves with fine blades, refining the details with water and brushwork. Once completely dry, the piece is sanded and burnished to a luminous sheen before being fired and smoked in the kiln. A semi-transparent pigment is then applied, enhancing the depth and intricacy of the carved patterns.

The result is more than ceramic—it is a synthesis of texture, movement, and vision, each work bearing Jeff Margolin’s unmistakable touch.
