Description
Wei Sun’s ceramic work is a fusion of Asian ceramics culture from his native region and the North Carolina pottery tradition from his adopted home. His creations reflect a harmonious blend of aesthetics and utility. Sun maintains that every facet of a pot or mug, from its shape and form to its decoration, glaze, and function, plays a vital role. In his view, each element contributes equally to the final piece, neither overshadowing nor underplaying the other.

About Wei Sun
Born in Nanjing, China, Wei moved to the US in 1994 and has been living in Raleigh, NC, since 1998. He first discovered North Carolina ceramics around 2010 on a pottery tour to Seagrove, NC. Soon after that, he started taking foundation classes at local art centers in Raleigh and continued his ceramic studies with established potters. In 2019, Wei completed a 9-month apprenticeship with Marsha Owen Pottery and became a studio potter working at his home studio in Raleigh.
