The Interloper is a playful cast bronze sculpture by North Carolina artist Roger Martin, featuring a large turtle carrying an unexpected passenger—a frog perched confidently on its back. This limited edition of 19 reflects Martin’s signature blend of anatomical accuracy and expressive character.
With over 35 years of experience sculpting wildlife, Martin draws on decades of field observation and anatomical study to infuse his subjects with lifelike detail and charm. Cast using the lost-wax method, The Interloper invites viewers to consider the surprising companionships found in nature—and the quiet humor in the animal world.
Artist’s Statement
“My goal is to capture the essence or personality of the subject, not just an accurate anatomical replica of the species. I have spent much of my life studying animals. The more an artist knows their subject, the easier it is to push the envelope to achieve a truly expressive piece.”
