Standing with quiet vigilance, Sarah’s Deer by Jonathan Bowling evokes the stillness and attentiveness of a creature deeply in tune with its surroundings. Made entirely from reclaimed steel and found objects, the sculpture blends anatomical strength with a weathered, timeworn surface—honoring both the natural world and the raw character of salvaged materials.
Bowling’s creative roots trace back to a small Kentucky farm, where his childhood imagination turned fieldstones into castles and hay twine into bridles. After formative years in Belgium and formal training in both sculpture and art history, he settled in Greenville, North Carolina, where he continues to create large-scale metal animals from his studio.
This outdoor sculpture is part of his ongoing exploration of animal forms—each welded figure a tribute to resilience, reinvention, and the enduring rhythms of the natural world.
