Birdseye Maple Breadboard

Description

Award-winning artist Edward Wohl handcrafts these display-worthy birdseye maple breadboards.

Hard maple, found mostly in the northern US and southern Canada, is prized for its beauty and durability. Because of its high density and fine, even grain, hard maple resists marring from knife cuts and absorbs relatively little moisture from food. It also provides a pleasing finish – a smooth, even surface with an attractive luster. Only 1 in perhaps 500 hard maple trees will exhibit this birdseye pattern, and experts are uncertain why it occurs. Since birdseye maple varies tremendously in color and grain pattern, each breadboard is crafted using carefully selected sections from a single piece of wood. This custom matching gives each board its distinctive appearance.

Care: Handwash your breadboard with mild detergent and warm water, then towel dry immediately. Kiln-dried wood is highly susceptible to water and dampness, so never allow one edge or side to be left on a wet surface. Every two weeks or so, wipe your breadboard with mineral oil to renew the finish and protect the wood. Let the oil soak in for several hours or overnight and wipe off the excess.

Please Note: Each breadboard is individually handcrafted, so no two will be identical. Expect slight variations in wood grain patterns.
