This solo exhibition kicks off with an opening reception on Saturday, October 12, from 2-5 p.m., where guests will have the opportunity to meet Tina and indulge in complimentary offerings from Metro Wines. This event is free to attend and open to the public. Into the Wild will remain on view through December 31, 2024.

Tina began working with clay over 30 years ago. Her sculptures are hand-built, and each has its own distinctive personality and characteristics. Tina’s signature finishes result from utilizing alternative firing techniques with natural elements. Many of her pieces are bisque fired, followed by a barrel firing that uses natural elements and/or carbon to color the pieces. Notably, she does not use traditional glazes in her work.

Into the Wild will feature a wide variety of animals not often encountered in daily life, originating from various continents. The exhibit will primarily showcase ceramic creations. However, it will also include a unique bronze sculpture and some new experimental pieces that combine canvas, hand-made paper, and ceramic animal relief.

“Being able to create a sculptural piece with my hands is truly a spiritual process. Part of me will always live in that piece no matter where it finds a home. That is why I continue to create and share my love of art.” – Tina Curry

Tina’s artwork has achieved significant recognition, leading to commissions from notable institutions such as Zoo Knoxville in Tennessee and the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo in Alberta, Canada. In 2021, she was selected from artists across Tennessee to design and create the Governor’s Arts Awards. These biennial awards are Tennessee’s highest honor in the arts, recognizing individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the state’s arts or cultural life. In 2022, Tina was featured in the September issue of Ceramics Monthly magazine.
