"Would You Please?"

Asheville artist Laura Peery says she was drawn to working with clay because of its ability to mimic fabric. Her porcelain and mixed-media objects are composed as if assembling a garment of multiple textures, prints and colors.

"I make these pieces as if cutting from a dressmaker's pattern. After assembling each simple shape, I attach thin slabs of clay one by one. Layers of vintage-inspired patinas contrasted with bright button-like accouterments complete each piece. No two are alike." ~ Laura Peery

Laura received an MFA from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of several museums, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC, the Fuller Museum of Craft in Brockton, MA, and the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC.
