Wooden Serving Bowl – White

Description

This handcrafted serving bowl by North Carolina artist Mark Gardner is ideal for entertaining or artful display. Each bowl is turned from locally sourced hardwoods and has a milk paint finish on the outside and a food-safe walnut oil and beeswax finish on the inside.

Mark’s process starts by taking a whole log and cutting out slabs with a chainsaw. Each piece is cut into a large disc on a bandsaw and mounted onto a lathe to be rough turned into a bowl shape. After drying in a kiln for a couple of months, the bowls are remounted on the lathe for final turning and sanding.

About Mark Gardner
Mark grew up in Cincinnati, OH. He was introduced to woodworking as a teenager by his father, who was a hobbyist. After attending a two-week woodworking class at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in 1996, Mark was hooked on the turning process. He moved to Saluda, NC in 2000, where he opened his own studio and now makes a wide variety of functional and decorative objects from locally sourced hardwoods. In addition to his work, he teaches and demonstrates at woodturning clubs and craft schools around the country.
