Holiday Sip & Shop

Dancing Rabbis Menorah in bronze by Scott Nelles.

This holiday season, give the gift of handmade! On December 6 and 7, we will be offering a refreshing alternative to big-box retail chains druing our Holiday Sip & Shop event at Grovewood Gallery, which will take place from 10am-5:30pm on both days. Enjoy complimentary wine and warm cider while shopping for unique gift items, including wooden bowls and utensils, ceramic tableware, blown glass, fine jewelry, and much more. You’ll save 10% on gallery merchandise, and local makers will demonstrate their craft from 11am to 4pm on both days.

On December 6 and 7, Asheville fiber artist Karen Kennedy, a graduate of Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts Program, will be demonstrating needle-felting using locally dyed wool to create festive holiday snowmen.

On December 6, Asheville artist Kendall White will demonstrate wet felting techniques as she creates one-of-a-kind scarves out of merino wool rovings. Using only water, soap, and a bit of elbow grease, she’ll transform loose wool fiber into wearable works of art. White was introduced to fiber art as a child, often assisting her grandmother, who was a quilter. Years later, she received formal training through Appalachian Center for Craft and at the John C. Campbell Folk School.

On December 7, local artist Deanna Lynch will demonstrate some small stitching work, applique and mini-quilt work. Lynch says she has been exploring these techniques as a way to add “stories” to her handwoven work. She will have a few wall hangings in the gallery that are already framed and finished. Lynch has been the continuing education weaving instructor for Haywood Community College since 2017 and continues to add new classes each year.

PLEASE NOTE: All demonstrating artists will have original works of art for sale. The 10% discount does not apply to demonstrators’ artwork, custom/special orders, or Lyman Whitaker Wind Sculptures.
