Painting by Chip Holton

Grovewood Gallery presents the work of Chip Holton in a solo exhibition titled In Flux, beginning with an opening reception on Thursday, February 17, from 2 – 5 pm and running through March 27. The collection features paintings, drawings, and sculptures in various mediums and artistic styles. The artist will also give a live painting demonstration in the gallery on Friday, February 18, from 11 am – 3 pm (free to attend).

Chip’s portfolio is vast and diverse. He creates sketches, landscapes, watercolors, portraits, murals, and sculptures. He has a broad range of skills, and his artistic style always seems to be “in flux,” but he says his “normal style is realism, with a nod to surreal.”

Chip grew up in Lexington, NC. His mother, also a painter, was the primary artistic influence in his life. His formal study of art didn’t begin until graduate school at UNC Greensboro, where he got his Master’s in Fine Art with a concentration in portrait painting. After graduating, his jobs included designing exhibits at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, set designer for Twin City Stage in Winston-Salem, and doing various commission work.

Chip currently resides in Greensboro, NC, where he’s the “artist-in-residence” at two high-end hotels: O.Henry Hotel and Proximity Hotel. His art appears in lobbies and elevators, on the ceilings and walls. Chip also painted murals for Lucky 32 Restaurant, the Kathleen Clay Edwards Library in Greensboro’s Price Park, and the children’s room at the Lexington Public Library.

NOTE: Buncombe County is under a mask mandate, so face coverings will be required at this event.
