David Terpening
David Terpening has been involved with woodworking since childhood where he experimented in his father’s basement shop. Entering adult life and being confined to apartment living, he began working with veneers and inlays, eventually becoming proficient in marquetry and winning several national awards.
During the mid 1990’s, David created finely detailed ornamental boxes for collectors, utilizing the finest exotics, burls, and other unique species of woods of the world. He enjoyed combining different species of woods and veneers to produce dramatic visual effects.
Today, David is introducing a series of small bowls for collectors. Like his collectable boxes of the 1990’s, his current work features precious woods accented by layers of Ebony and Maple. His bowls have been accepted into several exhibitions.
His first collection is titled the “Funnel Series." The Funnel Series is distinguished by its simple straight lines and maple/ebony accents. Bowls are 6” in diameter, use exotic or burl woods and are finished with tung oil. The bowl shape resembles a funnel.
The current collection is titled the “Trumpet Series." Resembling a trumpet horn, this series features a sensual feel with curved lines, ebony & maple accents, and a feature ring of ebony.
