Asheville is a focal point for wood art this summer with three concurrent exhibitions featuring artists from the state, around the country, and around the globe. The American Association of Woodturners helped facilitate these exhibitions. A special collector’s weekend is planned July 21 – 23, 2011 with evening and afternoon events at the participating galleries (see below) and demonstrations by Carolina Woodturners at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Grovewood Gallery presents A Wood Collector’s Home, featuring the works of 19 top wood artists from across North America. A Wood Collector’s Home will showcase 3 rooms with handcrafted furniture pieces, as well as wall mounted and freestanding sculptural works in a variety of sizes. The exhibition honors the idea of incorporating, enjoying, and using handmade, heirloom wood objects in daily life. A Wood Collector’s Home runs July 1 – October 2, 2011, with an artists’ reception Saturday, July 23 from 2 – 5pm. Click here for participating artists.
