Caryl Brt - NICHE Awards Finalist!

11/02/2010 -

Congratulations to Grovewood artist Caryl Brt! Her "Carapace" cabinet is a finalist in the NICHE Awards, professional division. Out of thousands of entries, 115 finalists were chosen. Caryl was one of five artists chosen in the "Furniture and Cabinetry division.

"Carapace" cabinet is a sculptural wall piece that distills some of Caryl's feelings about protection/safety, exposure and privacy, the strength and peace we can find through our personalized and colorful exoskeletons as well as the ultimate shield: invisibility.

Constructed of walnut and handmade paper, it contains various objects from nature. An LED light inside shines softly through a handmade paper-covered window in the door and creates a dramatic effect in a darkened room.
