Dave Taylor
My work has evolved greatly over the past 20 years. I started by using mostly found objects...farm machinery and chrome auto bumpers. Now I'm fabricating welded figurative pieces using new steel...sheet, rod and tube to assemble sculpture with a more refined and delicate feel. Ok, I still throw in a few found objects now and then.
The welding, the least critical part of the process, is done by myself with gas, stick and MIG welders. Cutting is done with a hand held plasma cutter. No computer driven tools are used in the process and no animals were injured...except I may have hurt their feelings by depicting them.
I usually start with sketches and then go to patterns made from poster board and masking tape, then to steel...the whole time evolving from the original idea.
I used to split my time between being a dentist, a race car driver and a sculptor...now I'm doing this full-time. America, what a great country!
